Selecting The Player Unit
That will work best on your
Outdoor Laser Tag Field
There are several key factors that must be thought about before you select your player unit purchase. Therefore, you need to consider the following factors before buying a player unit recommended by the manufacturer.
Unbalanced field systems
When choosing a player unit, the first thing to consider is who is going to be using the player units. An imbalance in player unit selection can be a big problem. For example, some fields mainly have big weapons that are bulky and hefty. While these player units can look impressive and make someone playing with them feel powerful, most players cannot haul them around the field. In fact, some of the metal player units in the marketplace weigh over 12 pounds. In our experience over 50 percent of the players participating in this sport are under the age of 14 and some are female. If a player can't maneuver the equipment, they will not have an enjoyable experience. A bulky, heavy player unit that looks great but cannot be used is a waste of an investment. Many of the arsenals in current players fields are stacked with these heavy, cool-looking units. This is a big mistake. We advise all of our field operators to take a user and field-friendly approach when making player unit selections.
Imbalanced range
The second aspect to consider in your player unit purchase is the range difference between your player units.
Most player units have different shooting ranges. Also, variables such as direct sunlight can impact the player units' range. The player unit configurations are based on the lens size of the player unit. The most common lens sizes used are 25, 40 and 50 mm. The bigger the range, the longer the shooting distance that is needed. If one half of your arsenal has 25 mm lens and the other half has 50 mm lens, then your arsenal is imbalanced. Imagine you were the player that could only shoot 1/2 to 2/3 the distance of the other player units on the battlefield. Eventually, noone will want to play with the small imbalanced player units. This is the single biggest mistake that you could make as a field owner. Our advice: make sure your player units will have equal range before you make your purchase.
Player Unit Variety
A field should have three types of player units — four at max. Based on our experience, too many player units are nothing but a headache. The more player units a player has to choose from, the harder it is to make a decision about which unit to play with. Players that have too many options often leave frustrated and angry. Maintenance on each style of player unit also can be difficult. If you decide to have a fourth player unit model, it should be treated as a special player unit used for specific occasions only.
Maintaining Your Player Unit
Owning player units and keeping them in good working order are two different things. Manufacturers know what needs to be replaced on each type of unit, and a good manufacturer will provide spare parts to its field operators within reason. Adventure Sports wants your player units working and generating revenue. Ease of maintenance is a big factor in the profitability of your business. More profit for you means we have done our job.
Upgrading Your PLayer Unit
Some manufacturers have constant upgrades to their equipment and never communicate any of them to the field owners. When you do find out about them it costs more money. Nothing is more frustrating than having your hard earned investment become outdated in less than a month. Adventure Sports offers six months of free upgrades with each of our products.
Warranty
Purchasing laser tag equipment is a big investment, so you should feel confident in the design and quality of the player units you are purchasing. Unfortunately, today's mindset is that if a player unit breaks, you have to purchase another one. If a manufacturer only offers a 6-month warranty, you should ask yourself why. If the player unit was made of a superior design, it should be backed by a longer warranty. Adventure Sports offers a two (2) year warranty on our equipment. We want you to spend your money on improving your battlefield or on new equipment, not on replacing player units that were made with your initial investment. Contact the player unit manufacturer to see what kind of warranty it offers before you make a player unit purchase.
Repairs
In the event that equipment needs to be repaired, you want to be sure you can rely on quick and efficient service. Currently, Adventure Sports has two repair centers located in the United States and United Kingdom, and we're hoping to add an Australia center in the near future.
Major repairs can be shipped to a repair center. If the player units are under warranty, the parts and labor will be paid for. The only cost to the field owner is shipping. Most repairs should be completed within 72 hours. Minor repairs that can be corrected on site will be sent from the repair center to the battlefield. Adventure Sports will pay for the parts and equipment, and the field owner will be responsible for the shipping.
